Macchia, Becoming a Healthy Church

Stephen Macchia is president of Leadership Transformations, which is a ministry focusing on the spiritual formation needs of leaders and discernment for leadership teams in Christian ministries. This book was assigned to me for PESM and it is a comprehensive study of 10 common characteristics that were found in healthy churches in the New England area. Some of it is geospecific, but most of the book is applicable for a variety of settings. It’s a good read, rather detailed. Here’s some quotes to make you want to go and buy it!

p.51 “Worship is to be seen as the end, not a means to an end.”

p.129 “People don’t want to be managed. They want to be led. If you really want to manage someone, then focus on managing yourself.”

p.218 “How do you spell change: h-o-p-e? Or, d-i-a-s-t-e-r?
