weekend in review: I didn’t post last week because I was able to be up in Canada with my ‘rents. Really great to be able to go up there. Got to be at a wedding, see some relatives that I haven’t seen for ages and get some important wii played.
As for this past weekend, I was playing a lot of catch-up. Got to be in a fab meeting and hang out with a few like-passion-ed friends

on my list this week: I have a couple purchases to make, actually. a new wireless mic for Wednesday nights. Our attendance has grown to the point where I am having to speak really loudly and I’d like to be able to not be a yeller of a preacher. Got to get some final details worked out on my new computer purchase too, like not accidentally choosing a mammoth screen size (thanks to David for catching that one!). Do up the parent newsletter and I want to to some blogging as a debrief experience after NYWC 2008 in Sactown. I’m also chaperoning a kindergarten field trip!

current books: This week it’ll be CE: Foundations for the Future (not very inspiring) and Gonzales’s The Story of Christianity, Volume two. Also, the NBA preview issues of SI and ESPN. Yep, don’t you wish you could have my reading schedule! Also, I’m downloading the works of Irenaeus (ca.205AD) for a paper I’m writing.

current writing: I have to get to work on my CE assignemnts, crunch some numbers for my growth class and at least outling my history paper.

culture that’s caught me: Roberta got me a new copy of the Discipline of the Evangelical Church (ca. 2006). I’m a loser and will be reading it. Also, this Seth Godin video is a must watch

question I’d ask God: can you tell me your thoughts on democracy?

how i’m feeling about this week: alright. I’m going to be a little busy, but I am excited about it all.

Ran last week:
none, but walked about 20K

Goal for this week: to run. how pathetic is this getting?

Quote for the week: “People who can spread ideas…win” – Seth Godin. Interestingly, this needs to be put alongside the emergio statement, “Love Wins” that was popularized by Rob Bell. Answer this, who wins what? Exactly.

This is such an interesting political campaign ad. Before I post my thoughts, I’d love to hear some others.

Just a disclaimer though, I had to look up who Udall was and where he was running. And I didn’t check to see which party he belonged to, so I’m not interested in that kind of conversation. I’d rather us talk about what you noticed in the ad, and what it made you feel and think.

weekend in review: I spent the weekend in Sacramento for the National Youth Worker Convention.  I’m actually in the Sacramento airport right now.  So, it was fantastic of course.  I have loads of notes which I will blog for your perusal soon.

on my list this week: Got meetings and more meetings.  Lots of stuff to do in between.

current books: I finished reading Richards’ C.E. book and Stonehouse’s book about Moral Devlopment.  I am currently reading MarkO’s Youth Ministry 3.0.  They also gave us Rob Bell’s new book for free.  I’ll have to keep up my 25 pages a day pace!

current writing: I have a proposal that must get finished this week, like early this week.  Like by Thursday.  then I have a couple assignments that will need to be pounded out.

culture that’s caught me: I have Christian Smith’s DVD called Soul Searching in my dvd player but I really want to sit and watch it straight through. I’m having trouble getting 90 minutes in a row where I’m not falling asleep. But I did see a lot of cool art in the Sacramento airport. Just more prof that communism would suck. 🙂

question I’d ask God: Could you explain the process that Jesus went through as he began to understand the implications on his life of his messiahship. With apologies, of course, for calling it a messiahship.

how i’m feeling about this week: Feeling good. I’ve got some travel to deal with and stufff, but I am going to get to take care of some things that I’ve been hoping for. Also, I’m going to a catholic wedding. woot woot.

Ran last week: didn’t put any runs into my schedule but walked like crazy at the convention. Really burnt my leg muscles, but felt no knee pain.

Goal for this week: i think I’d like to do like 5-9 miles this week, i’ll give it a go tommorrow and see how the legs are.

Quote for the week: “I love America! It’s the best Babylon of them all!” ~Tony Campolo

Autumn is beautiful

Today I have decided to let the world know that I love autumn. I could live in autumn for all eternity.

Fall, on the other hand, sucks. Fall is dumb.

Autumn is beautiful.

MMC – October 6, 2008

weekend in review: Had a good weekend. Read a lot of the Church History texts. Wondered what the heck was wrong with all those popes. i also got to play a lot with the kids. Sunday was a thorough day, though because I had church and led my small (?) group while I also had to prepare to lead a funeral today.

on my list this week: I have to tie up a lot of loose ends as I have a short week. I actually try to block my day into thirds (am, afternoon, evening) and I don’t have a block off for the family and kids until next monday night. That’s going to be rough.

current books: This week it’s Creative Bible Teaching by Richards and then Patterns in Moral Development by Stonehouse. I am about 4 days behind on my 25 pages per day schedule.

current writing: I finished my assignments last week. Last night I spent a few hours writing up a memorial service today. It was my first time leading a whole funeral on my own. It was really new for me to be used by God to help a family process their grief and grow in unity around their common loss. This week I have a presentation for a meeting at the end of this month that I have to work on. I want to send it in early.

culture that’s caught me: The Unit is back on and had a really stellar opening week. I haven’t seen last night’s yet, but it’s on the DVR. I’m also interested to see previews of the new season of 24, where Jack Bauer is taking on the cause against child soldiers.

question I’d ask God: Why death?

how i’m feeling about this week: Really great. Going to do the NYWC this weekend, so I am looking forward to that refreshment.

Ran last week: none, just did walks because my knees kill

Goal for this week: probably just more walks. Scheduling difficulties right now!

Quote for the week: It’s easy to be against something that you’re afraid of. And it’s easy to be afraid of something that you don’t understand. ~Seth Godin
